Hotel Del Coronado
(Brand Concept)
Hotel Del Coronado is San Diego’s glittering jewel. Literally, as the word “Coronado” translates to “Crown.” The logo mark created in this branding exploration is inspired by royal cyphers to reflect the namesake and history of the hotel.
Sitting beachfront on Coronado island, just across the bay from San Diego, this historic hotel combines majestic Victorian architecture and seaside charm. This branding exploration hopes to encapsulate this essence through the colors, nostalgic photography, and type.
Hotel Del Coronado’s unique architecture sets it apart from other hotels in the area and around the world. It’s signature red roof, victorian turret is one of the hotel’s crowning glories. A scalloped edge or ornamentation is utilized throughout the branding as a framing device, in order to capture the uniqueness of the hotel.
For over 130 years, this hotel has not only been a luxurious escape; Great for a family vacation, a relaxing beach day, or a sunset picnic, but Hotel Del Coronado has been an iconic piece of San Diego history and pop culture. In 1958, Marilyn Monroe filmed one of her most famous movies, “Some Like It Hot” at the hotel. The film photography used throughout this branding exploration pays homage to the movie and rich history of the hotel.
